• What to Expect During an Audit?

  During a home energy audit, Scott evaluates the home from top to bottom to identify issues that may affect comfort, safety, health, and energy efficiency. The audit may include a room-by-room review, foundation check, insulation, attic and interior roof inspection, basement or crawlspace evaluation, and blower door testing to help locate and measure air leakage.  

  After the audit, homeowners receive a report with a prioritized list of recommended improvements.

• Why Get a Home Energy Audit?

  A home energy audit helps homeowners understand where their home may be losing energy, comfort, and efficiency. It can identify concerns such as air leakage, insulation gaps, indoor air quality issues, high energy bills, drafts, and uneven temperatures. An audit can help identify any issues before making any investments in home improvements, potentially saving you time and money.

• How Do I Prepare for an Energy Audit?

  No preparation by the homeowner is necessary for the energy audit. It can be helpful to review your last energy bill and be prepared to discuss any issues you are having and what concerns you would like to address.

• What is a Blower Door Test?

  A blower door test helps find where outside air is getting into your home and where heated or cooled air may be escaping. During the test, special equipment is placed in an exterior doorway to gently pull air through small gaps and cracks. This helps the auditor locate problem areas around windows, doors, attics, crawlspaces, and other parts of the home. The results show how drafty the home is and can help identify improvements that may make the home more comfortable, healthier, and more energy efficient.

• How Much Does an Energy Audit Cost?

  • • Basic: $150.00
      This home energy audit covers a foundation check, insulation, attic and interior roof inspection, and a basement and crawlspace evaluation. This also includes inspecting doors and windows for leakage and a room-by-room review. This audit generally takes about 1 hour to complete.
    • Mid-Level: $250.00
      This energy audit includes all the basic home energy audit features and blower door testing to determine how much and where the house is leaking air, which can be contributing to discomfort and high energy bills. This audit generally takes about 2 hours to complete.
    • Full Audit: $500.00
      This energy audit includes everything in the mid-level energy audit, plus air sealing, weatherization, and a pre- and post-blower door test to review actual energy savings from recommended home improvements. This audit generally takes about 4 hours to complete.

  *As a courtesy to homeowners, we can provide certain additional improvements at the homeowner’s request, such as LED lighting, if necessary, for an additional per-bulb cost.
